A resolution Honoring the life of Louie E. Johnston Jr.

WHEREAS, longtime Nashville resident, and Founder of Layman Lessons Ministries Louie Johnston passed away peacefully on February 8, 2021 in Nashville, he was 70 years old; and
WHEREAS, Louie Johnston served Nashville, the State of Tennessee, and the United States of America through continuous acts of selfless giving during his lifetime, as a Minister, published author, historian, coach, speaker, producer and business man; and
WHEREAS, spending his preschool years in the company of his grandmother at her one-room shack, he acquired his devout love of God and Country from her during long walks to church every Sunday; and
WHEREAS, after starting work in the hay fields at 12 years old, being employed by Burger King, the Brick Masons, and day labor, Louie Johnston became the Terminal Manager, and Teamster Supervisor at Yellow Freight by age 21; and
WHEREAS, prior to earning his MBA from LaSalle University in 1997, Johnston launched a business efficiency company in 1982, which by 1990, led to his acquisition of Blue Wing USA, an 80 year old company supporting military needs around the world via the efficient use of business practices and modern technology and earning a patent for an automated system for the manufacturing of customized military uniform insignia badges; and
WHEREAS, Louie Johnston founded and ran the American Constitution Center, a public library for Judeo-Christian Patriot Heritage promoting the American system of fundamental principles that govern our great Nation; and
WHEREAS, as an Ordained Minister, Johnston founded and operated Patriot Pastors, a National network of leadership of all who believe in God Jehovah of the Holy Bible, providing free resources and totally confidential non-denominational pastor training; and was an accomplished singer, songwriter and music producer; and
WHEREAS, having excelled in sports through his college days, Johnston officiated countless high school and youth football, baseball and softball teams through the years. His crowning sports achievement was coaching the 1994 World Series Girls Fastpitch Softball Champions, the Goodlettesville Belles; and
WHEREAS, Louie Johnston’s greatest challenge, and his greatest success, came in founding and operating Layman Lessons Ministries. With no paid staff since its founding in 2001, Johnston created an organization that has brought over 8,770 homeless persons to God, fed and clothed over 20,000 of Nashville’s homeless population, and currently operates in 24 states. Layman Lessons Ministries achieved GuideStar’s Platinum rating and was named by two Nashville CPAs as being the Number ONE Charity in America in 2018, with over 99.8 percent of all donations and fundraising to feed and clothe the homeless community in Nashville going directly to that purpose; and
WHEREAS, Louie Johnston, the humanitarian, authored 62 books relating to God and Country, aided Constitutional Legislation in 28 States, produced 12 documentaries on the Homeless Crisis, and authored over 100 television programs on Behavioral Health issues within the homeless community; and
WHEREAS, Johnston’s never-ending commitment to God, America and his fellow man have been apparent for decades in Nashville, his home, and the homeless community continues to mourn his loss. He will forever be remembered as a true Man of God, and a stalwart believer that ALL men, and women, are created equal and should be treated and loved accordingly; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize, honor, and commend the life and undying giving of Louie Johnston Jr. to the people of Nashville, the State of Tennessee and the United States of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as honoring the life of Louie Johnston Jr. for his un-relentless commitment to the betterment of Nashville, Tennessee and America through his self-less service to the homeless, love of God, and respect of the Constitution of the United States as a guiding doctrine for each of us equally.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
