Agenda Analysis

Analysis

On December 22, 2023, a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”) officer was responding to an emergency call with his patrol car’s lights activated. The officer failed to stop when entering the intersection of Interstate Drive and James Robertson Parkway, and his patrol car collided with a vehicle driven by Catherine Greek.

Ms. Greek had entered the intersection of James Robertson Parkway and Interstate Drive and did not see the MNPD vehicle until it was in front of her. The vehicle was declared a total loss.

The Department of Law recommends settlement of the property damage claim of Erie Insurance as subrogee of Catherine Greek for $16,171.

Disciplinary action against the MNPD officer is pending supervisor review.

Fiscal Note: This $16,171.001 settlement would be the 15th payment from the Self-Insured Liability Fund in FY25 for a cumulative total of $582,258. The fund balance would be $13,363,110 after this payment.
