A Resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of Inglewood Baptist Church.

WHEREAS, March 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of Inglewood Baptist Church (IBC) located in the Inglewood neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Inglewood Baptist Church initially started with thirty members in 1923 at a small home on Shelton Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Inglewood Baptist Church was officially “called to order” on March 18, 1924. In the late 1920s, the congregation started meeting at its current location at 3901 Gallatin Road in what was called “The Basement Church”, a basement auditorium on the lot where the church’s present-day auditorium is located; and
WHEREAS, throughout the 1940s and 1950s Inglewood Baptist Church continued building brick by brick, and the construction of an auditorium, second and third floor educational facilities, and a four-story educational complex was completed by 1955; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of Dr. Kevin L. Shrum, Inglewood Baptist Church’s seventh and current pastor, the church developed a renewed vision of outreach and growth within its membership and to the community; and
WHEREAS, the church continues to dedicate itself to community outreach in Nashville and frequently partners with organizations such as Room In The Inn and Second Harvest Food Bank; and
WHEREAS, Inglewood Baptist Church also runs its own food pantry out of the church to serve the immediate needs of the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, in celebration of its 100th anniversary, Inglewood Baptist Church is conducting events all throughout the month of March with many opportunities for worship, fellowship, and connection; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council celebrates the 100th anniversary of Inglewood Baptist Church and expresses appreciation to the church for its many years of service to its congregation and the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan County Council hereby goes on record as recognizing the 100th anniversary of Inglewood Baptist Church.
Section 2. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
