title

A resolution recognizing April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Nashville and Davidson County.

body

WHEREAS, children are among the most vulnerable members of our community, and every child deserves to grow up safe, supported, and free from abuse and neglect; and

WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect can have lifelong impacts on a child’s physical health, mental health, education, and overall well-being, and preventing harm early strengthens families and improves community safety; and

WHEREAS, effective prevention includes supporting parents and caregivers, strengthening neighborhood and school-based protective factors, expanding access to family-centered services, and ensuring that child-serving systems work together to identify risks and respond quickly when concerns arise; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, faith communities, nonprofits, and neighborhood organizations, plays an important role in promoting safe environments for children and connecting families to resources; and

WHEREAS, Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed nationally each April and is a time to raise awareness, encourage reporting of suspected abuse, and highlight practical steps our community can take to prevent child abuse and strengthen families; and

WHEREAS, public awareness efforts during the month of April can help reduce stigma, encourage early help-seeking, and remind residents that protecting children is a shared responsibility.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Nashville and Davidson County and encourages all residents to join in efforts that support families, promote safe and stable homes, and protect children from abuse and neglect.

Section 2. That the Metropolitan Council further expresses its appreciation for the professionals and volunteers who work every day to prevent child abuse and neglect, support children and families, and respond when help is needed, including child advocacy center staff, social workers, educators, healthcare providers, counselors, prosecutors, law enforcement, and community-based nonprofit partners.

Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of the Metropolitan Government requiring it.
