A resolution approving an application for a DOJ FY 2026 Invited to Apply-National Integrated Ballistic Information (NIBIN) Modernization Program grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, to the Metropolitan Government, acting by and through the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD), to fund the modernization of the MNPD Crime Laboratory’s ballistic imaging capabilities to strengthen forensic ballistic capabilities and improve the investigation and resolution of firearm-related crimes.

WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, is accepting applications for a DOJ FY 2026 Invited to Apply-National Integrated Ballistic Information (NIBIN) Modernization Program grant with an award of $600,000.00 with no cash match required to fund the modernization of the MNPD Crime Laboratory’s ballistic imaging capabilities to strengthen forensic ballistic capabilities and improve the investigation and resolution of firearm-related crimes; and,
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Government is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,
WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Government’s application for a DOJ FY 2026 Invited to Apply-National Integrated Ballistic Information (NIBIN) Modernization Program grant with an award of $600,000.00, a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is authorized to submit said application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.
Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
