WHEREAS, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office is accepting applications for a Community Traffic Safety Enforcement and Education grant with an award of $711,799.99 with no cash match required for community-based efforts that employ highly visible and sustained enforcement coupled with community outreach events to address impaired driving and other unsafe behaviors; and,

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is eligible to participate in this grant program; and,

WHEREAS, it is to the benefit of the citizens of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County that this grant application be approved and submitted.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:

Section 1.                     That the Metropolitan Government’s completed grant application for a Community Traffic Safety Enforcement and Education grant with an award of $711,799.99 is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is authorized to submit said application to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.

Section 2.                     That this resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

This resolution approves an application for a community traffic safety enforcement and education grant from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (“MNPD”).

 

If awarded, this grant would allow MNPD to conduct proactive traffic enforcement to address impaired and distracted driving on weekends and some major holidays. The funds will be used to pay overtime for personnel and equipment for enforcement and training.

 

If awarded, the grant amount is $711,799 with no required cash match.
