A resolution recognizing Nashville and Davidson County as part of the Tennessee Bird City Network.

WHEREAS, Metro Nashville and Davidson County has a history of supporting bird conservation and education, including designation as an Urban Bird Treaty City by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2023, and
WHEREAS, birds play an important ecological role in our community, controlling insect pests and contributing to pollination and seed dispersal, and
WHEREAS, birds play an important economic role in our community, attracting tourists and generating millions in recreational dollars statewide, and
WHEREAS, the Bird City Network is a collaborative and conservation-focused initiative coordinated by American Bird Conservancy and Environment for the Americas that encourages communities to take locally appropriate actions that benefits birds, the environment, and people, and
WHEREAS, numerous and diverse partners have worked collaboratively to support Metro Nashville and Davidson County’s Urban Bird City status and will join Tennessee’s complementary Bird City Network, and
WHEREAS, the Tennessee Bird City is an initiative to build relationships within local communities and guide action to protect and conserve birds, and
WHEREAS, Metro Nashville and Davidson County find it in the best interest of the community and its residents to show its support for the Bird City initiative by fulfilling program requirements and affirm Nashville’s commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That the Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as supporting recognition of Nashville and Davidson County as a Bird City through the Bird City Network; affirming the importance of protecting and enhancing urban biodiversity and bird habits; recognizing the collaborative efforts of location partners to advance these goals; and encouraging continued c...
