An ordinance amending the Metropolitan Code of Laws Title 2, Section 2.56.530, Traffic safety school fee, to increase enrollment fees.

WHEREAS, The Metropolitan Code of Laws Section 2.56.530 provides that the traffic safety school is authorized to charge a fee of up to ninety dollars for enrollment in each traffic safety class; and,
WHEREAS, in response to a significant increase in individuals enrolling in traffic safety classes, the traffic safety school has expanded its offerings of traffic safety school options to accommodate attendees; and,
WHEREAS, overall costs and fees associated with providing the traffic safety classes, as well as administrative fees and operating costs for the traffic safety school, have increased over time; and,
WHEREAS, the fees associated with providing the traffic safety classes has not been amended or increased since 2010; and,
WHEREAS, to offset the costs of providing the classes, and to operate the traffic safety school, the General Sessions Court Judges have voted and approved an increase in the enrollment fee to one-hundred and fourteen dollars and fifty cents ($114.50); and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Nashville and Davidson County that the language of Section 2.56.530 be amended to reflect an increase in the enrollment fee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. That Title 2, Section 2.56.530 of the Metropolitan Code of Laws shall be amended by deleting the section in its entirety and replacing it with the following:
The traffic safety school is authorized to charge a fee of up to one-hundred and fourteen dollars and fifty cents for enrollment in each traffic safety class. The traffic school is authorized to charge a fee of up to thirty-five dollars for rescheduling a missed class.
